I first became interested in Boer goats in 1996, soon after Boer goats came to WA. I bought my first four fullblood does and one fullblood buck early in 1997. Always, I have had an eye to the commercial side of the industry, believing that it is the commercial raising of goats for meat that must be the driving force. With this in mind I selected my breeding stock from animals that looked like a meat producing animal.

Then in 2001, I started scanning the animals for muscle depth at 9 months of age. Now I had figures to back up my visual appraisal of the animals. With these figures, in combination with the weights at birth, weaning and 9 months and their pedigree records, we are able to obtain KidPlan Estimated Breeding Values. These figures show us what improvement an animal can make to the performance of his or her progeny. It is with these figures, in addition to the physical appearance of the animal that we now select our breeding stock. We believe that to be commercially economic animals must perform well without expensive feeds.

All our stock grow on grass, we do not pellet feed.
